 Established in 1951 by parents who wanted to provide enhanced opportunities for their children with developmental disabilities, OCARC has grown to serve over 700 adults in year round programs designed to enrich the lives of the individuals served and enable them to achieve their full potential.
OCARC accomplishes its objectives by providing:
- Vocational training, employment and placement in community based jobs
- Skill development designed to enhance the potential for independent living, making informed choices and self-advocacy; and
- Opportunities to participate in leisure and recreational activities, based on individual preferences, designed to enhance the quality of life.
OCARC’s quality programs are delivered by experienced, well-trained staff members who strongly believe in and advocate for the rights of the agency’s clients.
OCARC is a California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation governed by a twenty-four member board of directors, with annual revenues of over $8 million dollars and over 130 employees. The agency operates several different programs and serves individuals residing predominantly in central and north Orange County.
OCARC is a licensed and accredited provider of services for people with developmental disabilities, receiving funds from the California Department of Developmental Services and Department of Rehabilitation. OCARC is a member agency of the Orange County’s United Way.
Maintaining high quality programs requires continuing support from the community. Foundations, corporations and individuals provide financial assistance in the form of grants, donations and participation in special events. Many businesses also support Orange County ARC’s programs by employing people with disabilities and providing work opportunities in the agency’s packaging and assembly facility.
